Some tests have to conduct for a spacecraft. That is usually before the launch of a spaceship. Through a trial, the probe can be decided as suitable for the launching. If some wrong has arisen, scientists have to correct it and have to launch. Yes, that is the totally correct way. Today I am going to tell you about the idea that this Mars 2020 launched. Actually, it is not launching, but it was a test. Now shall we move to our topic????
The test of the Mars 2020
The Mars 2020 had passed its initial test. This is a mostly forward and backward manoeuvre. It is with a six-wheeled pirouette. Even during the trial, the autonomous navigation also tested.
The driving license of the test can be taken with the passing of the test. I have to tell you about the passing of this test, and it had earned the driving license. It has a wide field of view navigation cameras. There are about a group of 23 cameras. Even they are high-resolution cameras. Other than the cameras, it has a very developed computer system. Here the development means the computer system is very intelligent. This computer system will help the process images and make maps.
I have to tell you about some other important thing. It is, there are sophisticated auto navigation software is here. After the launch, this rover will cover a lot of ground during the mission. The mission is to find evidence of past microbial life on Mars. This will land in February of 2021. And that is at the Jezero crater. That is to get details about the surrounding and the surface area of the mars.
In the surrounding of the Jezero crater, there is a mineral-rich environment. Don’t you know that??? There are clay minerals and a fossilised river delta created by an ancient river that flowed into the crater. It relies on the aluminium sheets that are redesigned. And each of them is with the motor.
Then scientists are planned to cover a significant portion than the earlier. Initially, this rover is expected to travel about 200 meters per Martin day. When I am telling this suddenly I had remembered something. NASA’s Opportunity rover covered 214 meters per day.
On the 17th of December, the test was done. It was a marathon 10-hour test. Through that the all parts are tested. It drove, steered and turned in place. Then John McNamee said that,
“a rover needs to rove, and Mars 2020 did that yesterday”. He is the Mars 2020 project manager.
Then we have to speak about the rover’s wheel. Because they are arranged on a pair of legs on each side of the rover. There are three wheels per leg. The legs are consisting of titanium. Titanium is a very strong and light metal. Even there are 48 grousers. There is a drive engine for the wheel itself. There are separate steering engines for the front and the rear wheels. Not only the legs but also the spokes are made out of titanium. Those titanium spokes are very useful. Do you know the features of the titanium spokes? It provides springy support for the wheel. As it is in a curved shape.

Mars 2020 rover
This is a creation by a NASA’s space exploration programme. NASA is focusing on the exploration of Mars. That is while SpaceX is trying for the colonisation of Mars. I think you know the specialities of Mars because I told you through my previous article.
Mars 2020 rover will launch on the 17th of July 2020 from the earth. And then it will land in the Jezero Crater on the 18th of February 2021. Already you know the purposes of this launching. There are some then you more. You can know more.
This is to investigate the geographical history of Mars, Mars’s past habitability, the past life of Mars and the potential for preservation of biosignatures within accessible geological materials. The launch mass of this rover is about 1050 kg.
This project started in 2012. I mean NASA announced this project to the whole world on the 4th of December 2012. That is at the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union. This rover’s design is similar to the curiosity rover. And this will carry a helicopter drone. Then the naming of this event significant. Because in 2019 NASA announced for a student naming contest to assign a name for this rover.
The only rover isn’t sufficient for the investigation. Therefore some other instruments are included in this river. They are as follows. On the 31st of July 2014, NASA announced about these payloads.
Radar imager for Mars’ subsurface experiment
This is used to image different ground densities, Meteorites, structural layers and the buried rocks. And to detect salty brine and the underground water ice.
A planetary instrument for X-ray Litho chemistry
This is to determine the fine-scale elemental composition of the martian surface materials.
Mars environmental dynamics analyser.
These are some sets of sensors that can be used to measure the wind speed, direction, temperature, pressure, humidity and the sizes and the shape of the dust particles.
Mars Oxygen ISRU experiments
This is an exploration technology of the investigation. This will produce a small amount of oxygen
Supercam and Mastcam – z.
Supercam can be used to imaging, analysing the chemical composition and to investigate if the mineralogy of the rocks. And then the Mastcam – z can be used as an imaging system with the capability of zooming.
Mars helicopter scout
This is the planned solar-powered helicopter drone. That has a mass of about 1.8 kg. The purpose of this part is to demonstrate the practicality of flight. Mars. This will test about five times within the 30 days.
