There are many natural objects in the outer space of the earth other than the planets, the sun, and the stars. Those objects are revolving around the planets, moon, and sun, as well as those natural objects, travel to the long distance of space. Some examples of such a natural object are asteroids, meteorites, and comets. I want to give you a mean idea about comets, meteorites, and asteroids.
What is an asteroid?
These are like as large rocky particles, as well as they are known as minor planets. Asteroids do not have a tail part. There are many asteroids in outer space. Large asteroids are called planetoids. Minerals and rocks are containing in the asteroids. The 30th of June is International Asteroid Day. The United States of America announced that day. Asteroid’s diameter is about 945 km. There are types of asteroids, such as C-type, S-type, and M-type. C-type is for chondrite, S-type for stony, and M-type for metallic. C type asteroids made up of clay, silicate rockets. S types of asteroids are made up of silicate material and nickel-iron. M types are made up of nickel and iron. 1 cere is the leading example for an asteroid. Other than that, four vestas, two Pallas, are more examples of that.
What is a meteoroid?
The difference between the meteoroid from an asteroid is the diameter. As I told above, the width of the meteoroid is about 945km. Meteoroids are smaller than asteroids. The diameter of a meteorite is about 10km. Those small meteoroids are known as micrometeoroids. These meteoroids are made out of oxygen, silicon, nickel, and iron. Like asteroids, meteoroids can be divided into groups as stones, metals, and stony-irons. Cape York is a famous meteoroid. The meteorites can be divided into parts as chondrites and anti chondrites. Stone meteorites have a high risk of falling on the earth. As well as there is a type called pallasites. That is the rare type of meteorites we can find. After breaking those meteors, meteorite falls on the earth. Other than Cape york fukang, hoba meteorites are some meteorites.
What is a comet?
These are like snowballs, but snow is not contained in it. Dust is visible around these balls. Comets are made out of carbon dioxide, water, ammonia, and dust particles.comais the surrounding dust cloud. Comets have a nucleus of about less than 10km. You had seen a tail to the comets. Why is that?. In the comets, the dust cloud can be seen as the tail. Halley’s comet and Encke are near to the earth.
I told you about the elemental natural objects in outer space. With these primary details, we can move to the next level of this article. Through the topic I mentioned, I am writing about a recently seen comet. I thought to tell you about the Borisov comet.
2I / Borisov
The International Astronomical Union gave the name 2I / Borisov (IAU). Here the “I “letter refers to Interstellar.1I is for oumuamua because it was the first Interstellar object. This is a big object. The diameter of this comet is about 2 km – 16 km. This is still entering the solar system. Borisov is the second object that is recognized as an Interstellar object. The first is Oumuamua. I am expecting to give a brief description of this comet here in my article.
Borisov was near to the solar system in October and November of 2019. Scientists predicted that this would be closer to the sun about the 7th or 8th of October this year. I want to give you the path that this comet traveled.
- This comet can be observed in the northern sky from September to mid-November.
- In the beginning, it was named as a near-earth object.
- This was discovered on the 30th of August 2019, by amateur astronomer Gennady Borisov.
- On the 11th of September, this comet was known as C/2019 Q4 Borisov. As well as that it was known as a hyperbolic comet.
- In September, the 24th International Astronomical Union announced that this is a comet. Other than that, they gave the name 2I / Borisov.
- In the 12th of Octoberthe 26th of October – comet passed star Regulus
- The 13th of November – crossed the celestial equator.
- November, it can be observed in the southern sky.
As I told above, this will be close to the sun on the 7th or 8th of this December. As well as that about the end of December 2019, this will reach near to the earth.
The heliocentric eccentricity of Borisov comet is about 3.36. Have you heard about the eccentricity earlier?
This is a measurement that uses in space science. This unit of measure is used explicitly for objects like comets. How do we calculate eccentricity? This is a “ratio between the distance from the center to the foci and the distance from the center to the vertices.” Scientists can calculate it.

Scientists said that this object entered the solar system through the direction of Cassiopeia and Perseus. Even the scientists predicted that it would travel out of the solar system through the path of Telescopium. Other than that, people called the 2I /Borisov as Christmas comet because it will come closer to the earth at the end of December.
Do you know how this comet named after?
The comet is called from the name of a person. He is Gennady Borisov. He was the first person who observed this comet through a telescope. He is not involved in the space science field. He is only an engineer. He noticed some object is brightening in the sky.
Borisov comet looks similar to the comets of the solar system. The color of this is the same as the solar system comets. Other than that, gases are emitting from this comet. There are carbon and oxygen in the composition of Borisov, just similar to Jupiter’s comets.
From the above paragraphs, even I told you about the significance of this Borisov. Now I would like to list them.

- 2kg of dust-producing and 60 kg of water loss through the coma of this comet.
- Having an eccentricity level more than 3. This is greater than the concentration in oumuamua.

This is a Hawaiian word. The meaning of Oumuamua is a scout or a messenger. This name was a suggestion of a pan – STARRS. Rama is the original word that supposed to name this comet, but this name gave it to an alien spacecraft.
Mr. Robert Weryk discovered the Oumuamua. Astronomers announced publicly this is a purely natural object in July 2019. Oumuamua found on the 19th of October 2017. This is in red. This has a length of about 100-1000 meters. Scientists said that the width could be 35 – 167 meters.
As you know, the nearest comet to the earth is Halley’s comet. It will be visible to earth in the year 2062. It revolves around the sun. We can find more information about these meteorites, comets, and asteroids through future space missions.
