Comet 2IBorisov from Hubble

   I think you know about Borisov already. That is a comet. Even I had written about Borisov before. This is a natural object. Like Borisov, there are many natural objects in interstellar space. Borisov was found as an object that entered from the outer space. Very rarely, such types of objects come the area. This is even observed by a person. He is not a scientist. Then scientists started to find such kinds of natural objects carefully. Then they could have observed them at first, and they will arrive at a conclusion too. Even they can see them through special telescopes that only designed for such purposes. 

   Then we can see the updates of Borisov. But before that, I would like to tell you about the Borisov comet. That will be very useful. I know that you even know some more. Then recall your knowledge. 

The comet 2I/ Borisov

   As I said above, this is a comet. And there is another important thing. It is that this is the first observed interstellar comet and the second observed interstellar interloper after Oumuamua. This passed the ecliptic of the solar system very recently. That is on the October 2019. 

   In other than that Borisov went closer to the sun on the 8th of December 2019. This is as 14 times as the sun. That revealed by the students of Yale University. Other than that, the research students of the. Yale University said that ” it’s humbling to realize how small the earth is next to this visitor from another solar system.” Then Borisov has an eccentricity level of 3.36. I know that now you are puzzled about the word eccentricity. Therefore I thought to tell you that.

    This is a comet that was discovered from the Genard Borisov. This comet is named after the founded person. Plus, this was found on the 30th of October 2019. There are about 1039 observations. Borisov’s last perihelion was on the 8th of December 2019. 

  Usually, this comet is calling as the comet Borisov. There are other names too. It is that the 2I Borisov. The name 2i Borisov is the name by the International Astronomical Union. The word 2I, the letter refers to the interstellar. Then the two means this found at the second. The first is Ou Muamua. Before this official name, there were some other names for this interstellar comet. I think you are interested to know these names too. Then see below. 


   In the beginning, this was named the gb00234. This was a name by early orbit solutions. They said that this could be considered as near-earth orbit. And they said that this comet has to put in the list of IAU’s Minor Planet centre. Then after thirteen days of observations, this was observed as the hyperbolic comet. Later after that, Borisov had named C/2019 Q4 Borisov.

That was named as the 11th of October 2019. Then David Tholen, Davide Farnocchia and Bill Gray confirmed that this is an interstellar comet. Later on the 24th of September 2019, this was named the 2I Borisov. The working group gave that name for small body nomenclature. They even approved that this is an interstellar comet. Now you know the names given to this 2I Borisov. Then this is the fixed name. 

Borisov and solar system

   You know that there are some essential things about Borisov comet. There is a nucleus in the Borisov. And that is surrounded by dust and gas. Even this comet shows asteroidal appearance. The observers concluded that the comet is producing 2 kg of dust while that it is losing 60 kilograms of water. According to Karen Meech and her team at the University of Hawaii, the nucleus of this comet is about 2 km to 16 km. Then after that, some of the scientists argued that the diameter had to less than 1 km. 

   In other than that this comet shows a similar composition to the solar system comets composition. The colour is also the same. As the components mainly cyanide and the carbon are included. These above are some specifications of the 2I Borisov. There are some things that have to tell you before the end. 


   This interstellar comet can be seen from the northern direction from the earth. That is from September to mid-November. Although we have to know the course that this comet entered to this solar system. It entered from the direction of Cassiopeia that is near to the border with Perseus. Then after that, it will leave the solar system from the direction of Telescopium. Then scientists told that this entering direction predicted the origin of the Borisov. That it originates from the galactic plane rather than the galactic halo. 

   And even this interstellar comet acquires about the higher hyperbolic excess velocity of 2I Borisov about 32 km per second. Then that is very hard to reach this comet even for a spacecraft. But two-ton spacecraft launched to investigate about the 2I Borisov. That is on the July 2018. In the future, there would be more launches than the above. Plus, there are some more updates of this 2I Borisov. Then we have to talk about some more. 

Size correction,

     There are some pictures taken with some telescopes. Through those pictures, the true nature of this Borisov can be observed. In the beginning, this was considered an asteroid. Then these pictures help to identify it as a comet. I told you that this comet travelled near the sun on the 8th of December.

At that time, the distance between the sun and the comet is equal to twice the distance between the earth and the sun. At this place, the Hubble telescopes able to get a picture of this comet. The comet is very beautiful in the pictures. And through these pictures, it can be suggested that the diameter of this comet is about 300 metres. And there is a spiral galaxy next to the Borisov comet. Do you know that only black and white pictures can be taken by the Hubble telescope? Then the colours needed to add this picture.
